Union Home Ministry Notifies Keralam As Official Name For Kerala Following Parliament Approval

The Union Home Ministry has officially notified Keralam as the new name for the southern state of Kerala, effective today. This notification follows the passage of the Kerala Alteration of Name Bill in the Lok Sabha on August 11 and in the Rajya Sabha the next day. The legislation received presidential assent after a resolution was passed by the state assembly in 2024 urging the central government to enact a law changing the name to Keralam. Following reference to the state legislature, a unanimous resolution was adopted agreeing with the bill. The act alters the name of the state while making necessary amendments to the Constitution alongside consequential provisions.
