A major political showdown erupted in the Tamil Nadu assembly following the cancellation of the proposed Parandur Airport project. The Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government called off the project, alleging corruption and claiming that real estate firm G Square and former ministers linked to the DMK were benefiting from it despite objections from farmers. The TVK framed the decision as a victory for local farmers, while the DMK accused the government of taking the state's development ten steps back. As accusations flew over real estate ties and lottery allegations, Leader of Opposition Udayanidhi Stalin challenged the TVK government to release the relevant files. Meanwhile, the government's proposal to repurpose the Parandur land for industrial development and expand the existing Meenambakkam Airport with a fifth terminal has raised fresh questions regarding land acquisition, farmer compensation, and potential legal challenges.
