Cop threatens Gorakhpur university students for protesting

Protests at Gorakhpur University turned tense after a video of Sub Inspector Aviral Mishra threatening the protesting students went viral.<br /><br />Students have been protesting since 25 August, with the protest turning into a hunger strike on 5 September. They are demanding better facilities in the hostel mess and attention to other issues on campus.<br /><br />On 8 September, Assistant Proctor Ved Prakash Rai reached the protest site to speak to the students, but talks failed to resolve the matter.<br /><br />Police alleged that some students tried to push and assault the proctor, leading to a confrontation.<br /><br />Amid the standoff, a video of Mishra saying he would call in more police force and warning the students sparked outrage. The matter is currently under investigation.
